Carlsbad Continues Positive Growth, Economic Strength

Carlsbad, New Mexico continues to show signs of positive economic growth by adding several new retail, restaurant, and hospitality companies.

CARLSBAD, NM, May 21, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD) congratulates the National Cave and Karst Research Institute (NCKRI) on their ribbon cutting within the Cascades at Carlsbad, bringing to life the first building in the open-air marketplace.

The ribbon cutting event took place on Saturday, May 14, with a community celebration that included a blood drive, an inflatable cave for children, food, refreshments, and music. Several local elected officials partook in the ceremony that is the culmination of years of hard work, lobbying, and community support.

The celebration of the NCKRI building is the latest in a string of positive events for the Cascades at Carlsbad project, and for the city in general. The community has welcomed Lowe's Home Improvement, IHOP, Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Hampton Inn and Suites, and SunEdison in recent months.

"Things are picking up," said Jeff Campbell, marketing director for the CDOD. "Unemployment continues to decrease, and more new companies are looking at Carlsbad because of our strong economy."

The various industries that call Carlsbad home keep the economy diverse and stable. Additionally, a leakage study conducted by the University of New Mexico has shown where the market is lacking and has opened the door for new opportunities in retail, restaurants, and entertainment.

"We are interested in attracting all facets of economic growth," said Campbell. "Our industrial airpark has been garnering interest, and several big box stores and restaurants have been looking our way too. Carlsbad is a great market to look at, especially since we have no municipal impact fees and we are in a pro-growth mode."
