/24-7PressRelease/ - YPSILANTI, MI, January 24, 2007 - Web accessibility expert Dennis Lembree of web development company CheckEngine USA will be the featured speaker at the January meeting for Refresh Detroit, a local group of web professionals focused on improving web design, usability, and standards.
The meeting will be held at 6:30pm Wednesday, January 24, in downtown Ann Arbor, Michigan at the offices of 3.7 Designs, also a member of Refresh Detroit.
Mr. Lembree will be presenting on web accessibility, a method of developing web sites so that content is available to all Internet users, both disabled and non-disabled, regardless of what browsing technology they are using.
"Accessibility is a vital part of developing for the web. Not only is it beneficial for disabled individuals, but also for those new to web browsing, and to those who have limited technology. Web accessibility is beneficial to other areas of web development too, such as search engine optimization and web usability."
Web accessibility is growing in awareness and concern in the industry and in governments worldwide. Retail giant Target Corporation was recently sued by the National Federation of the Blind for an inaccessible web site. U.S. law requires that a web site partially or fully funded by the federal government must follow a set of accessibility guidelines dubbed "Section 508".
3.7 Designs and CheckEngine USA are co-founders of the Refresh Detroit organization. Refresh Detroit is a part of the international organization Refreshing Cities.
