HIA-LI Announces Hauppauge Industrial Park (HIP) Energy Conservation Project

    HAUPPAUGE, NY, April 27, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Hauppauge Industrial Park (HIP) is a major contributor to tax revenues for Smithtown and Islip New York where it is located. The 1,400 acre industrial park is one of the largest in the nation and home to 1,300 companies employing 55,000 people in manufacturing, construction and services industries. These factors make it a major user of energy as well. In 2009, HIP building owners paid over $30 million to LIPA for electrical energy and approximately $12 million to National Grid for natural gas. Now, in the first project of its kind conducted at a major industrial park, HIA-LI, the recognized voice for business on Long Island, this week announced it is leading an energy conservation project for the Park that is expected to determine energy usage with the goal of reducing energy consumption by at least 15 percent. In addition, HIA-LI is partnering with ENERGY STAR as way to demonstrate its commitment to promoting energy efficiency and sustainable business practices.

The announcement comes during a press conference following the annual HIA-LI-hosted Hauppauge Industrial Park Update which provides details and status updates about studies and ongoing projects that impact critical Park infrastructures, including energy, sewers and transportation.

In announcing the HIA-LI Hauppauge Industrial Park (HIP) Energy Conservation Project, Kulka introduced a seven step process designed to uncover Park energy usage and to begin the process of energy conservation that would save on energy costs, as well as reduce the overall carbon footprint of the Hauppauge Industrial Park.

2. Involve the Park in the Project
3. Create an Energy Survey
4. Create an HIA-LI HIP Energy Conservation Working Committee
5. Evaluate Data and Create Initial Energy Utilization Benchmark Report
6. Present Update at HIA-LI Green Conference in October 2012
7. Educate and Inform Business Owners on Incentives and Tax Rebates

The EPA's ENERGY STAR partnership offers a proven energy management strategy that helps in measuring current energy performance, setting goals, tracking savings, and rewarding improvements.
