TULSA, OK, August 2, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Tedra Williams, former Manager of the Clinical Department at The University of Oklahoma-Tulsa School of Community Medicine, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in public health care.
Possessing a fascination with the complexity of public health and nursing, Ms. Williams is a registered nurse who served the medical field for 20 years. She was the manager of The University of Oklahoma-Tulsa School of Community Medicine for three years. In her position, she was responsible for overseeing the administration of specialty clinics, implementing fiscal management and construction, managing funding, and communicating with legislators and philanthropic organizations. Previously, she also served in the U.S. Army, and is a Gulf War veteran.
Ms. Williams holds a Bachelor of Science in community health from the University of Central Oklahoma and is pursuing a master's degree in nursing. Last year, she was honored with a Community Service Proclamation by the City of Tulsa and recognized as a Health Care Champion by Tulsa Business Journal. Moreover, in 2010, she was recognized as a Top Change Agent by Tulsa People Magazine. Ms. Williams was attracted to a career in public health because it considers such external factors as environment, family structure, cultural influences, ethnicity, wealth, and career. She entered the health care profession as a nurses' aide, progressed to licensed practical nurse, and then became a registered nurse. She attributes her success to resiliency and patience.
Ms. Williams co-authored a paper on interdisciplinary care that was published through the College of Pharmacy at The University of Oklahoma. She is a member of the Eastern Oklahoma Black Nurses Association and American Nurses Association. Additionally, she is a supporter of the YMCA and served as a board member of the McLain HS Foundation. In the near future, Ms. Williams intends to establish a foundation to provide guidance for pregnant teens and teach the importance of a career.
