Hocking Hills Adventure Trek offers several different interpretive treks, featuring everything from nature and wildlife treks, to a Shawnee storytelling hike that transports travelers back thousands of years into the area's rich Native American history. During guided hikes led by professional naturalists and historians, visitors experience an in-depth look into the geology, biology, wildlife and Native American history of this hidden Midwest treasure. Special Kickoff Event: October 20 Hocking Hills Adventure Treks and the Appalachia Ohio Alliance (AOA) will present "The Circle of Life." This one-of-a-kind guided expedition will lead participants on a hike through the Davis Group of Ancient Earthworks, estimated to be 1,800 to 2,200 years old. An archaeologist will be on hand to provide the history and answer questions about this important historical site.

In addition, Shawnee storytellers, Neeake (Fred Shaw) and Wehyehpihehrsehnhwah (Ron Hatten), will pass down ancient and modern stories and share Indian flute melodies reflecting native beliefs regarding the circle of life and the way back to nature. Neeake is an Olammapise (Truth Teller) of the Shawandasse/Shawanoese (Shawnee). Since 1971, he has been sharing stories passed down from generation to generation. Wehyehpihehrsehnhwah was raised in a household that spoke only Shawnee until he was eight years old. Today, he is now fluent in the language, life, song and history of his people. Both men will close "The Circle of Life" event, providing participants with a powerful, enlightening and inspiring experience.
