Yorkshire Platform Specialists Trade Harry Potter Boom Lift

Wakefield-based Horizon Platforms recently bought and sold a boom lift used in the filming of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

WEST YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND, April 09, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Horizon Platforms, the West Yorkshire-based access platform hire and sales specialists, recently traded a piece of movie history when they bought and sold a boom lift used in the filming of the Hollywood blockbusters Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - parts 1 and 2.

Boom lifts are mobile work platforms used in the film industry for shooting scenes from high positions, such as the motorbike chase featuring characters Harry and Hagrid (pictured).

Horizon Platforms sold the boom lift (a Genie 45/25 Bi Energy) on to a bed company, who now use it for far more mundane maintenance tasks around their factory.

Rory Duggan, Joint Managing Director of Horizon Platforms, said, "We only found out this particular boom lift's history when we took delivery of it, and were very excited to learn it had played a part in one of the highest-grossing films of all time.

"We're used to supplying access platforms for people who want to work safely at heights from 3 metres to 40 metres for a variety of jobs, but we've never had one from the movie business before.

"These kind of platforms are often the safest means of access and give you a great deal of versatility when you're working at height. That means there's always a demand for them, and we had a buyer wanting to purchase this particular boom lift very quickly.

"Harrison Spinks, the Leeds-based bed manufacturers, bought the platform after trialing it on site for two days. They've taken advantage of Horizon ongoing Service and Maintenance package ensuring that their platform will be inspected and cared for over the coming years. We are sure that they'll give it a good home - even if its film-making days are over."
