TORONTO, CANADA, April 19, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Megan Peck, Counsel to the Assessment Review Board of the Government of Ontario, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in the legal profession.
Ms. Peck has more than 30 years of professional experience. She began her career as a pharmacist, and after 7 years she decided to transition into law. For two years, she served as crown counsel for the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. In 2003, she accepted her present leadership role.
As legal counsel for the Ontario Assessment Review Board, Ms. Peck works closely with the chair and board members on issues relating to property assessment and municipal taxation that arise from hearings before the board. In addition to providing in-house legal advice and training, she also serves as a public spokesperson at regional training conferences and annual events. In particular, she advises on issues relating to procedural fairness, natural justice, requests for review, statutory interpretation, standard of review, rules of procedure, small claims court matters, leaves to appeal, judicial reviews, aboriginal peoples, Freedom of Information and Ombudsman Act requests. She also contributed to updating a recent edition of the Ontario Property Tax Assessment Handbook.
Ms. Peck sees pharmacy and law as helping professions and decided to become a lawyer because she wanted to provide the disadvantaged with legal advice and services. She attributes her career success to her integrity, persistence and interpersonal skills.
In 2009, Megan Peck received her Master of Laws from York University. She also has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from the University of Toronto. She is certified as an arbitrator by the Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Ontario and is licensed by the Ontario College of Pharmacists. She is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Council of Canadian Administrative Tribunals, the Society of Adjudicators and Regulators and the Ontario Bar Association. She sits on the executive committee of the board of directors of the Association of Law Officers of the Crown. In her free time she enjoys attending cultural events and exercising. In five years, she hopes to be more involved in aboriginal law.
