Shelley Debaar Inducted into Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Preschool Education

    CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA, May 22, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Shelley Debaar, Owner of the Montessori Children's House Academy Ltd., has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in preschool education.

Mrs. Debaar has 30 years of experience in early childhood education, with 15 years as the Head Directress of the Montessori Children's House Academy, which is made up of three Calgary Montessori campuses for preschool aged children. Founded on the principles of early 20th century Italian educator Maria Montessori, the institution stresses the importance of independent, hands-on learning. Founded by Mrs. Debaar in 1998, the academy has grown from one to three locations. In addition, Mrs. Debaar has added a full day program and introduced music and foreign language classes in Spanish and French.

Mrs. Debaar oversees the talented teaching staff at all three campuses and regularly runs development workshops for continuing education. She interacts regularly with parents and her teams. She also plays a central role in the institution's strategic planning and the overall promotion of the Montessori philosophy in Alberta. Her areas of expertise include training of the Montessori method and course development. From 1992 to 1998, she served as the Directress of Rainbow Montessori.

She became involved in Montessori education after being discouraged by the quality of early childhood education she encountered as a childcare worker. Mrs. Debaar attributes her success to her passion for the Montessori movement and the children she educates.

Mrs. Debaar studied early childhood education at the Granton Institute of Technology as well as Montessori education at Pacific Oaks College. She is a member of the Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators. In her spare time, she enjoys going to the gym and spending time with her family. In five years, she hopes to open up schools internationally.
