Screenwriter and director Marie Brodeur possesses two and a half decades of experience in the film industry. Not only does she develop projects and seek out financial backing but she is also involved in all aspects of production, including researching, screenwriting and directing. She is especially recognized by industry peers for her art documentaries.
After she obtained two bachelor's degrees in the areas of art, dance and film, Ms. Brodeur began her career as a professional dancer. The movement of dance through film was a topic that fascinated her and she began to meld her two loves together by filming a dance documentary in Asia. From there, her career steadily progressed, leading her to study with visual and performing arts professionals such as Irene Whittome, Gilles Maheu, Rabbi Linda Jean Asselin, Merce Cunningham and Jean-Pierre Perrault.
Her notable experience in visual and performing arts has garnered Ms. Brodeur a vast array of industry-related awards, including the Jury International Award for "The Dance of the Warrior" in 2002, and a nomination for best short film in 1997. In addition, she recently received commendations for her writing skills and her work on documentaries. Several of Ms. Brodeur's works are part of permanent collections in prestigious institutions, including the Lincoln Center Performing Arts Library in New York, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Montreal.
