Wimbledon crowns a winner and London's parks come alive with music festivals in July.



    LONDON, ENGLAND, June 25, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- It's the finals of Wimbledon on the first weekend of July, a month when London's parks are filled with live music, The Coronation Festival takes place at Buckingham Palace, and two well-known London venues - the former Olympic Park and the Imperial War Museum - open their doors again. And that's all before the Open East Festival which marks the grand re-opening on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July 2013.

The Imperial War Museum welcomes visitors once again following a six-month closure, re-opening its doors with three new exhibitions: 'Architecture of War', Omer Fast's '5000 Feet is Best' and the family friendly 'Horrible Histories: Spies'. There's more family fun to be had this month at the Osterley Weekend, the Festival of British Archaeology, a Traditional Crafts Weekend at the London Wetland Centre, and the Lambeth Country Show.

There's a multitude of music festivals in London in July. For the first time ever British Summer Time is staged in Hyde Park, a 10-day festival where headliners include The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Elton John and Jennifer Lopez. Kew the Music has a quality line-up with Paul Weller, Blondie, Leona Lewis and Jools Holland all playing at the festival in London's botanical gardens. In the courtyard of Somerset House the Summer Series features Lianne La Havas, Goldfrapp and Basement Jaxx while the Wireless Festival has Justin Timberlake and Jay Z headlining. The Lovebox line-up includes Azealia Banks, Plan B and Lil' Kim; and the Electric Daisy Carnival, North America's largest dance music event, makes its London debut on Saturday 20th July 2013 at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The BBC Proms starts on Friday 12th July with the First Night of the Proms kicking off eight weeks of world class classical music at the Royal Albert Hall. Opera in London in July includes the Royal Opera House's La Rondine, one of two productions to be shown live and for free on the big screen in Trafalgar Square where Alan Titchmarsh hosts. The Thursday 11th July screening will be followed by Tosca on Thursday 18th July 2013. The Opera Holland Park season continues with jolly, rustic comedy 'L'Elisir d'Amore' and blood-and-thunder melodrama 'I Gioielli della Madonna' which begins on Tuesday 23rd July 2013.

The best new dance productions in London in July are the Boston Ballet which returns to London for the first time in 30 years to celebrate its 50th anniversary, and a 'Classical Selection' by Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta who is joined by a supporting cast of world class dance partners with whom he has performed in the past to celebrate the year of his 40th birthday, both productions are staged at the London Coliseum.

New theatre shows beginning in July in London include 'The Sound of Music' at Regent's Park; and all three of Shakespeare's 'Henry VI' plays at Shakespeare's Globe where trumpet soloist Alison Balsom appears in 'Gabriel' and Footsbarn perform 'Indian Tempest'. Other theatre highlights are 'The Color Purple' at the Menier Chocolate Factory, 'A Season in the Congo' at the Young Vic, and 'Circle Mirror Transformation' starring Imelda Staunton, a Royal Court production at the Rose Lipman building in Haggerston.

The British architect behind the Lloyd's of London building, Richard Rogers, is the subject of an exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts where 'Mexico: A Revolution in Art, 1910-1940' begins on 6th July. The Victoria and Albert Museum takes visitors on a nostalgic trip through London fashion in the 1980s with 'Club to Catwalk'.

Other art exhibitions worth seeing are 'Laura Knight Portraits' at the National Portrait Gallery, the Design Museum's 'The Future is Here' and a clutch of photographic exhibitions including 'FreshFaced+WildEyed' at The Photographers' Gallery, 'The Press Photographer's Year', a free exhibition in the foyer of the National Theatre, and the 'International Garden Photographer of the Year' which comes to a central London gallery for the first time, appearing at the Bankside Gallery before showing at its usual London home at Kew Gardens in October 2013.

For fragrant flowers and beautiful blooms in the flesh visitors descend in their thousands on the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show from 9th to 14th July 2013 where show gardens compete for RHS medals and celebrity speakers include Linda Barker, Bill Oddie and Kate Humble.
