SURREY, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA, July 26, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Celine N. Cantin, Owner and Operator of Coastal Hand Clinic, has been named a Worldwide Who's Who Professional of the Year in Occupational Therapy. While inclusion in Worldwide Who's Who is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Who's Who membership.
Ms. Cantin has 28 years of experience in occupational therapy, with six years as the owner and operator of Coastal Hand Clinic. This past December she opened her second location, the Alpine Hand Clinic in Squamish, B.C. Just south of the world renowned Whistler Village (2010 Olympic Site). She is responsible for working as a clinician at both offices, seeing patients who have injured their upper extremities through work or disease as in arthritic or neurological conditions. Ms. Cantin offers assessments and treatment, including custom splinting to her clientele.
Ms. Cantin believes that laughter heals, offering a comfortable ambiance with her colleagues to help patients recover to their fullest. Her clinic is bright and cheerful. She attributes her success to her passion for helping others become independent again. She is a good people person, and supports her clientele emotionally. She became involved in her specialty when she was approached by plastic surgeons that worked in a hospital where she was the occupational therapist (OT) department coordinator to offer rehabilitation services for hand injury clientele. She was interested in the opportunity to offer this upcoming specialty service and proceeded to attend multiple continuing education courses to perfect her skills in the area. She eventually became a Certified Hand Therapist in 1997, the year she moved to British Columbia, 16 years ago.
Ms. Cantin received a diploma in health care administration from Universite de Montreal in 1994, and a Bachelor of Science in occupational therapy from McGill University in 1985. She has been a Certified Hand Therapist since 1997, renewing her title every five years as she continues to meet the re-qualification criteria. Her professional memberships include the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC), past president and current member of the West Coast Hand Therapy Association (WCHTA), the Canadian Society of Hand Therapists (CSHT) and the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT).
In her spare time, Celine Cantin enjoys the outdoors for downhill skiing, road cycling,swimming, participating in triathlons, travelling, learning to play the guitar and hopes to return to landscape painting in the coming years.
