Six Boutique Hotels Due to Open in Shoreditch in Next Two Years

    LONDON, ENGLAND, September 03, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- When The City Tower By Montcalm opens in Shoreditch at the end of 2013 it will follow hot on the heels of the Ace Hotel London Shoreditch which opens in September 2013. These are the first of six new boutique hotels planned for Shoreditch in the next two years adding to the wide choice of London hotels available in the Shoreditch area of east London including Shoreditch House, Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green, and Sir Terence Conran's The Boundary.

The City Tower By Montcalm, a brand new 200-room hotel located just off Old Street roundabout - also known as silicon roundabout - will include a roof top bar overlooking London. The hotel at 151 City Road, EC1, is within a brand new 23-storey tower development created by architect Will Alsop which fuses large scale art, sculpture and architecture in a futurisitc looking tower dubbed The Doodle because of the scrawls of bold colour decorating its lower floors.

Architect Will Alsop, who won the Stirling Prize in 2000 for Peckham Library, has described the project as "an artwork" which includes a striking 15-storey work by Scottish artist Bruce McLean who has been involved with many of Alsop's projects.

Other high profile openings in Shoreditch include the first European Nobu hotel, and a second CitizenM hotel in London within the Shoreditch Village scheme designed by EllisMiller Architects which could be completed by mid-2015. EllisMiller recently won planning for the GBP75 million Shoreditch Village scheme in London's East End. The 185-bed CitizenM Shoreditch will be part of a 14,000sq m public realm and mixed-use project which will reconnect historic routes and add retail, cafe, office and residential spaces giving Shoreditch a new public space and a market under the London Overground viaduct.

A second Montcalm hotel, The Royal London House By Montcalm, also opens in late 2013. The second project in the City of London takes an existing building, the listed Royal London House on the north side of Finsbury Square, and gives it a GBP15 million upgrade to become a new luxury 256-room five star hotel. The refurbishment gives what used to be an underused and dated office building a new lease of life as a luxury hotel with a destination restaurant, a spa and gym, and a banqueting suite on the lower ground level.
