History Associates Develops Content for New State-Of-The-Art Visitor Center at Monmouth Battlefield State Park

    ROCKVILLE, MD, September 05, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- History Associates, the leading U.S. historical research firm, collaborated with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), designer Gallagher & Associates, fabricator Color-Ad, and others to develop exhibit content for the new Monmouth Battlefield State Park Visitor Center in Manalapan, New Jersey. The 13,000 square-foot facility opened to the public on June 14.

"Visitors of all ages will come away with an appreciation for our attention to detail in commemorating this historic battle," said historian Dr. Garry Stone of DEP, the agency that funded the new facility. "This new exhibit is spectacular, thanks in part to the content developed by History Associates and the team."

The Battle of Monmouth took place on June 28, 1778. It was one of the largest battles fought during the Revolutionary War, a pivotal victory for George Washington's Continental Army, and the genesis of the legend of "Molly Pitcher."

The new visitor center tells the story of the battle using interactive exhibits, artwork, timelines, maps and artifacts from the battle. To develop the storyline, historians at History Associates began with a preliminary content outline, and then worked with the development team to expand on desired themes and ideas. In coordination with the DEP, designers, and fabricators, they researched and wrote the scripts for exhibit displays, bringing the battle to life with added quotes and personal stories from those who were involved in or witnessed the battle.

History Associates historians also identified hundreds of drawings, paintings, prints, and maps at repositories in Washington, D.C., as well as relevant collections within the New York Public Library, the New York Historical Society, and the Museum of the City of New York. They worked to secure high-resolution digital files and licensing agreements for dozens of images that were selected for use in the exhibit.
