AMARILLO, TX, September 6, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Candace A. Keller, Ph.D., Professor of Art and Curator of Art for Abraham Art Gallery and Museum of the Llano Estacado, Wayland Baptist University, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in art curatorship.
With nearly four decades of experience in the arts, and 19 years as curator, Dr. Keller currently serves as professor of art and curator of art for Wayland Baptist University, where she expertly offers her skills in the areas of painting, teaching, preparation of spatial arrangements, and design and installation of art collections and exhibits. Wayland Baptist University is a Christian University which provides higher education and a range of academic opportunities, such as the honors program, leadership program, undergraduate and graduate research and a study abroad program. The university offers more than 40 undergraduate majors, more than a dozen pre-professional programs and nine graduate programs. Student activities include student government, honor societies, academic organizations, special interest and Christian service organizations, art, music, and drama groups, social fraternities and sororities, and more.
Wayland Baptist University also boasts the Abraham Art Gallery, (Malouf Abraham Family Art Center) thanks to the generosity of Dr. Malouf and Therese Abraham. An avid art collector and patron, Dr. Abraham designed the gallery space himself in collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Institute. The gallery was designed to increase cultural awareness and artistic heritage, and was made possible by the joint efforts of these two individuals. The result is a fine and elegant gallery space offering excellent opportunities for Wayland Baptist University and the region. Throughout the seasons, the gallery presents a variety of exhibitions featuring a full range of media, styles and concepts, with shows featuring works from both established professional and emerging regional artists, as well as exhibitions of nationally renowned collections.
Dr. Keller became involved in her profession because she always loved the arts and was involved in visual as well as theatre arts. As a pre-med major during her undergraduate studies, she took an anatomical drawing class which intensified her interest in the art field. On completing another painting course, she decided to change her career path and worked as a resident artist for the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute, and for the Museum of the Big Bend. A standout in her field, her awards and honors include a Huntington Research Fellowship, Atlantic Center for the Arts Fellowship studies with artists Audrey Flack and Ed Paschke, Minnie Steven Piper Teaching Award, Distinguished Professor Award from the Association of Former Students, The Golden Nail Award of the Amarillo Foundation, Trailblazer Award from Women in Business, and Silver Star Award from Plainview Cultural Arts Council, Inc. She holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts from Texas Tech University, and a Master's in Theatre and M.Ed. in Art from Sul Ross State University. She is professionally affiliated with the College Art Association, The Citadelle Art Foundation Advisory Board, Alpha Chi, Alpha Psi Omega, CIVA, Plainview Cultural Arts Council, Inc., and has served on the Texas Commission on the Arts. Outside her professional career she is guest curator for regional exhibits, and enjoys painting, clay sculpture, theatre and travel. Dr. Keller is currently involved with planning a new museum, and continues her teaching, research and gallery curatorship, and personal studio work.
