FITZROY, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA, October 8, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nel Glass, Research Professor of Nursing of Australian Catholic University, has been named a Worldwide Who's Who Professional of the Year in Higher Education. While inclusion in Worldwide Who's Who is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Who's Who membership.
Dr. Glass has 41 years of experience in higher education, with 4.5 years as a Research Professor of Nursing for the Australian Catholic University. Over the years, she has established herself as an expert in the areas of nursing, interpersonal well-being and communication, self-awareness and qualitative research. In the course of her academic position, she is responsible for both conducting and supervising research. Professor Glass has been engaged in both qualitative and quantitative research projects for 35 years. She has in excess of 470 research outputs that include- a book, book chapters, journals, conference and seminar presentations, research reports, theses, study guides and art exhibitions and accompanying dvds. In her career she has authored and/or conducted 263 presentations nationally and internationally and has been a visiting scholar in 23 institutions. She has served as an editorial board member and/or reviewer for 16 international refereed journals in nursing and healthcare.
In her research projects, Professor Glass has collaborated with nurses, medical doctors, psychologists, art therapists, installation and visual artists, novelists, musicians, economists and mathematicians. She has been awarded $1.3 million in sole and/or collaborative funding. A significant amount of her research has investigated improving workplace practices, professional and practice development, retention, and recruitment. Additionally, she serves as an adjunct professor and clinical teaching associate III at the University of Connecticut. Professor Glass attributes her success to a strong drive and good mentors. She became involved in her profession because she was interested in healthcare and had a strong desire to 'make a difference'. She has progressed to her current position.
Dr. Glass received a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of New South Wales in 1995, a Master of Health Personnel Education from the University of New South Wales in 1987, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from the University of New South Wales in 1982, and a diploma in neuroscience nursing in 1976. She has also received a certification in general nursing in 1975. Dr. Glass is a fellow of the Australian College of Nursing, and a member of APHRA.
