amaha outboard engine owners expect their engines to last because Yamaha touts its products' reliability and durability.
TALLAHASSEE, FL, October 28, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Yamaha F225 outboard motors are corroding at an unusually fast rate, with damage starting to occur after only 500-700 hours of use. Owners of the Yamaha outboard engine are faced with very high repair rates, sometimes equaling $10,000.00 or more for a motor that retails for approximately $17,000.00. Even with proper maintenance, the severe Yamaha corrosion issue may not have been avoidable.
To repair corrosion damage requires new parts and labor expenses. Some parts can cost only a few hundred dollars, however a power head replacement can cost up to $10,000.00. When contacted about these issues, Yamaha responded that these engines were out of warranty and that proper flushing is the best way to maintain an engine.
"Yamaha outboard engine owners expect their engines to last because Yamaha touts its products' reliability and durability," according to Peter Mougey who runs the Securities and Business Litigation Department at Levin Papantonio. "However, there is a serious defect in these outboard engines that Yamaha has failed to remedy," says Mougey.
Owners of the Yamaha F225 outboard engine have experienced severe corrosion to the exhaust tube and the oil pan of the motor after little use. One owner saw severe corrosion damage after only 450 hours of use. Typically, owners are seeing severe corrosion after 500-700 hours of use. While Yamaha has repaired the engines that are under warranty, the majority of recreational boat owners use their engine less than 100 hours per year so, the problem does become apparent until the engine is outside of the warranty period. Signs of the corrosion include engines that lose horsepower, overheat, smoke and eventually fail.
"We believe Yamaha knew about this problem and we look forward to exposing what Yamaha did to ensure that their customers engines were free of defective parts," commented Steve Jaffe, Partner at Partner at Farmer, Jaffe, Weissing, Edwards, Fistos & Lehrman, P.L.
Many who own the Yamaha F225 motor have faced serious corrosion issues and expensive repairs. Some owners are making claims against Yamaha for this outboard engine. In order to recover losses, Yamaha F225 owners can consult with consumer protection attorneys and those who are familiar with consumer fraud lawsuits.
