"This goes to show that great design comes in all sizes and you don't have to have a huge space to work with to create something amazing."
SAN DIEGO, CA, February 11, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- San Diego-based Jackson Design & Remodeling (JDR) is pleased to announce that its Asian-Inspired Powder Bathroom has won two National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) awards, including best powder room and best overall bathroom.
JDR Senior Interior Designer Sol Quintana Wagoner, Assistant Designer Vanessa Tejera and Architectural Designer John Kavan, designed the award-winning bathroom that was executed by the JDR design build team. The original powder room was dark and uninspiring. The colors, materials and fixtures were run of the mill and the walls were covered with pink wallpaper.
"In the new bathroom, a curved mirror with a rustic Asian-themed wood frame is the backdrop for a stunning onyx sink with gold fixtures," said Quintana Wagoner. "It really captures the eye and when combined with the finished product gives the room a glittering sense of drama."
Other project details include: an impressive wall of tile that gleams in deep hues of ebony, gold and dark brown, illuminated by gold leaf lighting, and is activated by a sensor when entering the room. The sink appears to glow with creamy luminescence atop the free-standing vanity with Shoji-style doors. A natural stone floor in dark black with sparkles of metallic gold is a striking foundation for the powder room.
"This little bathroom was just 37 square feet so there was not a lot of space to work with, to say the least," said Todd Jackson, President of JDR. "We submitted it hoping it might win in the "powder bath" category but we can't believe it also took the top award for bathrooms, overall. Who would've thought this little powder bathroom would beat out some incredibly luxurious, and huge, master bathrooms from around the country? This goes to show that great design comes in all sizes and you don't have to have a huge space to work with to create something amazing. I'm so proud of our design team. They continue to impress me daily with their incredible skill and imagination. This really is a great honor for our entire team."
The 2014 NKBA awards entries were judged on the following five core areas:
Safety & Ergonomics, Elements & Principles of Design, Design Planning, Creativity and Presentation. Each of the industry experts selected to judge was either a Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer (CMKBD ) or both a Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD ) and a Certified Bath Designer (CBD ). NKBA award winners were announced at a special awards ceremony during the 2014 KBIS tradeshow in Las Vegas Feb. 4-6. The winning designs will be featured in the Spring issue of NKBA magazine.
