Dr. Smith has worked in health care management for many years
BAYSWATER, WESTERN AUSTRALIA, February 12, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Gilly Smith, Senior Lecturer of Edith Cowan University, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education.
Dr. Smith has worked in health care management for many years. As Senior Lecturer with Edith Cowan University she delivers lectures to 400 students, provides tutorials, provides assistance to online students and supervises Ph.D. and master's degree students. Her specialties include critical-care nursing, intensive care and cardio-thoracic nursing. She also specializes in health law and ethics. Looking back, she attributes her success to being very tenacious and persistent. Dr. Smith plans on doing more work with the university ethics committee and becoming a facilitator in changing the way bedside clinicians see ethics and research with the end result being the implementation of that research in nurse practices.
Dr. Smith spent five years in academia and 20 years in nursing. She became involved in her profession after working as a clinician for a long time. She wanted the opportunity to see how to better develop upcoming nursing students, and improve the quality of care that they provide. The highlight of her career was completing her doctorate whilst working full-time, when her husband was absent through his work commitments and with a very small child to raise. It taught her that she can achieve anything in life and structure is the key to managing time. It also taught her the value of quality time with her family.
Dr. Smith received a Bachelor of Nursing, with honors, as well as a graduate certificate in intensive care nursing, a graduate certificate in cardio-thoracic nursing, a graduate diploma in psychology, and a doctorate in business administration. In addition to her degrees, she is a registered nurse. She was recently inducted into Worldwide Branding and also maintains affiliation with Sigma Theta Tau International, the Australian College of Critical Care Nurses, and the Australian College of Nursing.
