NEW YORK, NY, February 24, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Judy Kang is unlike any violinist you've ever heard.

"Most likely the only musician to have worked with both Pierre Boulez and Lady Gaga," as the New York Times put it, Kang marries lively, evocative classical playing with such disparate influences as Bjork-inspired vocals, indie, electronica and hip-hop. Her multi-instrumental compositions, rooted in a love of classical and chamber music, explore how to make violin music for modern audiences in beautiful and often surprising ways.

Thursday, May 1, 2014, beginning at 7:30 p.m., Ms. Kang will perform at an evening to benefit the Jerome Lohez 9/11 Scholarship Foundation, during its annual Cocktail Awards Event at the French Consulate, 934 Fifth Avenue in New York City. Fine wines and passed hors d'oeuvres will be served. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Ticket prices begin at $85. Six premium tickets at $500 each will entitle the purchasers to a private dinner party with Ms. Kang, Ms. Dening Wu Lohez (chair of the foundation) and diplomatic officials at Orsay Restaurant in Manhattan, immediately after the awards ceremony and performance. Ms. Kang first picked up a violin at the age of four, instantly memorizing a piece at her very first lesson and performing and winning competitions in her first year of playing. At 11, she was accepted to the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music (auditioning with a fractured wrist), and became their youngest graduate at 17. At 19, she earned her master's degree at the Juilliard School. And if that wasn't achievement enough, she went on to become the first graduate, with high honors, of the prestigious Artist Diploma at the Manhattan School of Music.

Achievements and accolades have been rolling in since: a place in Academy Award-winning composer and electronic music pioneer Ryuichi Sakamoto's trio, a sold-out debut at Carnegie Hall and a spot on Lady Gaga's Monster Ball World Tour. In her studies, and in collaborating with a wide variety of artists, Judy has made her life's work a project in which music is both personal and non-traditional. Judy Kang challenges our notions of classical and contemporary music, blurring the line between them in the process.

The Lohez Foundation was launched in 2005 by Dening Wu Lohez in honor of her late husband, Jerome Robert Lohez, a French national who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

The Jerome Lohez 9/11 Scholarship Foundation is the only charitable organization established after the 9/11 tragedy that is dedicated specifically to promoting educational and cultural exchange among the U.S., France and China. By providing scholarship awards to multinational graduate students, enabling them to study in one another's homelands, the Foundation aims to shape the next generation of global citizen, along with a new class of international policy makers. The Foundation also seeks to develop a pool of highly-trained multicultural business leaders to serve as innovators in multinational commerce.
