Dr. Jones serves as deputy dean at Sydney Medical School and subdean of research for the discipline of pediatrics and child health
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, March 6, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cheryl Jones, MBBS, FRACP (Paediatrics) Ph.D., Professor of Pediatrics and Deputy Dean of Sydney Medical School, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in health and medicine.
Dr. Jones serves as deputy dean at Sydney Medical School and subdean of research for the discipline of pediatrics and child health. She is also a pediatric infectious diseases physician at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, where she heads the Centre for Perinatal Infection Research. Dr. Jones primarily researches childhood infectious diseases, such as the mother-to-child transmission of viruses, and emerging infections of the brain- infectious encephalitis.
Dr. Jones has 25 years of experience in health and medicine, including 15 years as a professor and. In addition to studying infectious diseases and overseeing her students' work, Dr. Jones's areas of expertise include brain infections, pediatrics and childhood health. On a day-to-day basis, she leads the research to prevent transmission of infections from mother to child, and mapping Australia's unique causes and consequences of infectious encephalitis (brain inflammation). Dr. Jones also coordinates maternal and child health activities for the University of Sydney's Marie Bashir Institute for Infectious Diseases and Biosecurity and contributes to programs for mentorship and professional development for postgraduate students, postdoctoral fellows and clinical researchers.
Known for her hard work, Dr. Jones attributes her success to her passion and perseverance. She became involved in her profession because she had been commissioned into higher education. Dr. Jones has always had an interest in children, as well as providing therapy and care in infectious diseases.
Dr. Jones received her Ph.D. from the University of Sydney, her medical degree from the University of Tasmania, and her paediatrics qualification from the Royal Australasian College of Physcians. She was recently inducted into Worldwide Branding and maintains affiliation with the Australia Society for Infectious Diseases. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and rowing. In the coming years, Dr. Jones plans to continue her career in the research areas of infectious diseases, as well as mentor her students.
