LANCASTER, PA, March 06, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- "Access to Independence," a free, online magazine for the disability community was recently launched by United Disabilities Services (UDS) which is headquartered in Lancaster, PA.
"UDS has so much experience and expertise to share with those who have disabilities and the online magazine format is a way for us to reach more people and help more people across the country," noted William Kepner, president of the non-profit organization.
The debut issue of "Access to Independence" is available on the UDS eStore website at https://estore.udservices.org.
Tiphany Adams, one of four stars in the reality show "Push Girls," is featured on the cover of the magazine. The reality show star shares her message of "Never, EVER give up," with the magazine's readers and gives inspiration and tips for staying positive when times are tough. She recommends keeping a toolbox of solutions for problems that create everyday stress.
Trending artist Jonathan Whitlock shares his story of recovery from an accident where he suffered traumatic head injury and had to relearn how to do everything; including the basic skills of everyday life. Through it all, his creative talent persevered and today, 15 years later, he is recreating his life as an artist. Jonathan recently had several gallery shows and his artwork is trending up.
Dr. Jill Bjerke gives tips on preventing falls for those aging in place. The nationally known Bjerke is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist and a Commissioner to the Iowa Department on Aging, as well as an international author and passionate advocate for seniors.
Additional features in the magazine focus on the 2014 "hot" products for home modifications in the bathroom. These products, and many others, are available on the UDS eStore, http://estore.udservices.org, and have been vetted by the UDS Home Modifications eStore team.
Three disability blogs are featured in the magazine, along with interaction from one of the UDS eStore Facebook fans. The UDS story is told and is accompanied by a video.
Events covered in the online magazine include a Life Care Planning workshop given by UDS and MassMutual on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the UDS Headquarters, 1901 Olde Homestead Lane, Lancaster, PA. Families involved in caring for someone with a disability are encouraged to attend to learn more about developing a life care plan that can help a person with a disability maintain a quality lifestyle.
