LONDON, ENGLAND, March 13, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Afternoon Tea will be a speciality at the Shangri-La hotel's signature restaurant, Ting, which opens its reservation lines on 17th March ahead of the restaurant's official opening on 6th May 2014, the same day as the Shangri-La hotel itself launches.
Two Afternoon Tea options will be available at Ting, which gets its name from the Chinese word for 'living room', on Level 35 of The Shard which at 310 metres (1,016 feet) is the tallest building in Western Europe - a classically English experience, and an Asian-inspired alternative, both with 30 teas to choose from.
Ting will also serve European food with a hint of Asian flavour. Signature dishes include hand-dived scallops from the north-west Highland coast cooked a la plancha and served with carrot, ginger and a light yuzu and grape seed oil dressing and organic Welsh lamb from Rhug Estate, glazed with mirin, sake and soy sauce, served with root vegetables and Kentish apples.
The more casual lounge has an a la carte menu of Asian specialties including curry laksa, 'Hainan' chicken rice and char koay teow. But for Afternoon Tea with a view, Ting will be hard to beat. One of three restaurants and bars within the Shangri-La, Ting is two floors beneath the hotel's bar, Gong (which opens in July 2014), while artisan deli Lang can be found on the ground floor.
All three venues will be overseen by executive chef Emil Minev, formerly of Shangri-La properties in Tokyo and the Maldives, who has close to 25 years of culinary expertise. Before working with Shangri-La, Minev was with Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Dubai and some of the capital's finest luxury hotels, including The Ritz.
