SAN FRANCISCO, CA, March 18, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The stone stucco business, Custom Exteriors, discusses the various types of stucco finishes and offers advice on how to choose the perfect style for your home. Although most popular in the Southeastern region of the United States, stucco siding can be found on the exterior of many houses.
It offers considerable durability and can look amazing with the right color/texture combination. The latter is the main reason why many homeowners opt for stucco over brick or standard siding; the color options are unique, given that the material can be applied in three ways.
Three Types of Stucco Finishes
The first and most common is a one-coat system. This entails the manual application of a base followed by a sprayed secondary coat; homeowners looking for a quick and simple project would be interested in this method.
Traditional hard or three-coat applications take a little bit longer to complete, but are ultimately more durable. The only difference is the addition of an extra base coat that offers greater texture continuity.
The third and final alternative is a lightweight synthetic stucco called an exterior insulation finishing system (EIFS); it differs from basic coat applications in that two stucco coats are applied onto a foam insulation board.
Once you have figured out how to apply the stucco, you will need to decide on a finish. Scraped, float, dash and lace are the four most common types. These are purely for aesthetics, so feel free to choose stucco styles that you like most.
"Scraped finishes are smooth, dash is rough and features a blend of protruding edges, sand makes the exterior appear grainy and lace resembles fabric patterns," says Jack Cooper, Director of Marketing and Business Development for Custom Exteriors. "There are plenty of other decorative finishes to choose from, so do not hesitate to ask us."
