MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, MD, March 27, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mark Williams, to many, is a humble guy next-door that is known in the Washington DC skateboarding community. However, Mark's latest ambitions have put him in the spotlight with massive recognition. On Thursday, March 27th, Mark embarks on a cross-country journey to teach skateboarding and raise money for cancer. He starts the 115 day journey in a small town in Vermont.
This is not the first-time Mark has been on such a trip. In 2013, he completed a 300 miles skate from Virginia to Indiana in memory of his Grandmother. From his past trip, he expects to be able to cover 70-80 miles per day on the road. This will include stops every 20-30 miles for breaks.
Why embark on such a crazy thing? Well, Mark is a professional skateboard instructor at Go Skate Skateboard School, and he has a passion for teaching and raising interest in skateboarding. Along his way, he will be teaching a few, free hour-long lessons for Go Skate - a nationwide skateboard school. In addition, he will be raising money to support the research for breast cancer.
Mark also someday wants to open up his own shop, Certy's Skate Shop, to be a local outlet for skateboarding in his hometown, Montgomery Village, MD. So far- Mark has raised a few thousand dollars for his journey.
Along his journey, Mark will be competing in two contests. The first, the Tampa Am, is an annual contest at the Skatepark of Tampa which is known for attracting some of the best skateboarders around the world. From there, he will skate to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in the DamnAm- another well-known skateboard contest. His appearance at the contests is also to raise awareness for his causes.
From Atlanta, he will continue to skate across America to San Diego and Los Angeles. There he will meet with some of the heads of the skateboard community and teach a free skate lesson for GoSkate.com. He will return home to Montgomery Village, MD in late- July.
