PRESTON, ENGLAND, May 14, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The World Health Organization - Philippines, in-charge of all medical operations conducted by foreign aid groups in the Philippines, recognized the works done by Ummah Global Relief in aid of the victims of the recent super Typhoon Haiyan that struck the country on 8 November 2013. In an email Dr. Sasha Peiris wrote:
"On behalf of the Government of the Philippines and the World Health Organization Philippines, we sincerely thank your medical team Ummah Global Relief for the rapid response towards the humanitarian crisis caused by super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). Your team has provided so much support in caring for and curing the sick and injured from the communities ravaged by the typhoon. This has been one of the worst natural disasters in recent history, and the response from the international community in both monetary aid and deployment of their own medical/search-and-rescue teams in hard-hit areas have been positive and a sign of global solidarity which we deeply appreciate."

Ummah Global Relief conducted a medical and relief operations in the town of Mercedes, bordering Guiuan, Samar, on 22 - 24 November 2013. The island is the area where Typhoon Haiyan first hit land. Food packs were distributed to 1,250 families and 150 people were seen by the medical team.
The team will return next year for the second phase of its effort to rebuild and refurbish schools, the medical health centre and homes of the very poor as well as regenerate the town's economy.
