An Air Force Veteran, Sherry S. Martin, PA-C, D.H.Sc., has Served as a Certified Physician Assistant for Chillicothe VA Medical Center for the Past 16 Years

    CHILLICOTHE, OH, May 20, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sherry S. Martin, Certified Physician Assistant of Chillicothe VA Medical Center has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in medical care.

Dr. Martin has 16 years of experience as a certified physician assistant for Chillicothe VA Medical Center. Over the years, she has established herself as an expert in patient care and an advocate for veterans. On a daily basis, she is responsible for evaluating patients by obtaining histories, as well as performing physical and mental examinations, diagnosing illnesses, developing treatment plans, as well selecting and managing medications. She also orders and interprets diagnostic tests and orders ancillary services. She volunteers as a preceptor to provide clinical education for physician assistant students.

Looking back, Dr. Martin attributes her success to her faith in a higher power, as well as her family, and her experiences in the U.S. Air Force and Veterans Affairs. She also credits being a life-long learner. She became involved in her profession after finding out about the Physician Assistant profession when working as a pharmacy technician at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas. She wanted to practice medicine and write prescriptions instead of filling them. The opportunity presented itself when the Army offered positions for its PA program to Air Force and Navy service members. She was selected for the Army program at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, before it became known as the InterService PA Program.

Dr. Martin received a Doctor of Health Science from Nova Southeastern University in 2007, as well as a Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies with an emphasis in psychiatry from the University of Nebraska in 2002, and a Bachelor of Science in Physician Associate from the University of Oklahoma in 1993. In addition to her degrees, she is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She was recently inducted into Worldwide Branding and also maintains affiliation with the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Veterans Affairs Physician Assistant Association, the Ohio Association of Physician Assistants and the Association of Physician Associates in Psychiatry. Dr. Martin intends to seek leadership positions within the professional affiliations.
