Hannay Celebrates His 22nd Year with Stanwell Corporation Limited

    CAIRNS, AUSTRALIA, June 05, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Scott Hannay, Group Manager of Hydro Operations at Stanwell Corporation Limited, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in change management and problem solving. Through his work with Stanwell Corporation, he has led the consolidation of three corporations' safe work systems into one.

Mr. Hannay has 35 years of professional experience, with two years as a group manager of hydro operations at Stanwell Corporation Limited. Over the years, he has cultivated a strong skill set that includes electrical power industry operations and maintenance management, a wide range of management roles, project management, change management, problem solving, systems consolidation and strategic foresight. On a daily basis, his role is responsible for communicating and interacting with other power station managers and senior management across the corporate portfolio, maintain strategic leadership and coordination with hydro site managers, participating in site morning 'Safe Start' meetings, monitoring all hydro's performance and seeking opportunities for improvement and making strategic decisions to deliver business outcomes and improve operations, maintenance and systems performance.

Looking back, Mr. Hannay attributes his success to versatility and experience gained from a variety of power generation industries including hydro, wind and coal fired power stations across a broad range of operational, maintenance, project, technical, systems, adviser and management roles. He is regarded as a leader that demonstrates initiative and tenacity, and he has been described by others as a team member and leader with good attention to detail, excellent communication skills, well-developed problem solving skills, continuous self-education.

As a distinguished professional in his field, Mr. Hannay prides himself on his willingness to take opportunities rather than wait for them. He became involved in his profession after various roles in the electricity industry arising from his electrical background for 20 years. He was successful in gaining a management role at a large coal fired power station, and found that he loved the challenge of influencing and creating change and improvement, while also making strategic decisions and working to develop people.

Mr. Hannay received a Graduate Certificate of Business Administration from Deakin University in 2014, as well as an Associate Diploma in Industrial Instrumentation from Central Queensland University in 1995. In addition to his degree and diploma, he completed a senior managers program from Mt. Eliza Executive Education in 2010, a middle manager program at the Australian Institute of Management in 2009, and a course in Zero Incident Process through Sentis in 2006. Mr. Hannay became an internal quality auditor through ETRS Pty Ltd in 1998. He achieved certification as a turbine operator with power output greater than or equal to 500kW, an advanced boiler operator through Queensland Workplace Health and Safety in 1995, and a licensed electrical fitter and mechanic. He also served in the Australian Army Reserve from 1979 until 1988 and was recently inducted into Worldwide Branding. In recognition of his management achievements, Mr. Hannay was named as a finalist for the Cairns Professional Manager of the Year Award through the Australian Institute of Management in 2009, and he was the recipient of the Queensland Workplace Health and Safety Award for Electrical Safety in that same year. He also earned a Board Employee Excellence Award from Stanwell Corporation Limited in 2008. In years to come, Mr. Hannay aims to seek out international opportunities in project management or in a managerial or leadership role.
