Ms. Ligthart's background is in international trade as an importer, exporter and freight forwarder. She continues to be an exporter and an international trade consultant. Her consultancy business offers specialised freight forwarding services, advice in setting up standard operating procedures for import and export, and assistance in researching clients' documentary and logistical requirements. She also provides export training and advice, assists clients with special export projects and speaks at various events.

Looking back, Ms. Ligthart attributes her success to her hard work, motivation, passion, and enjoying what she does. She became involved in her profession because she originally wanted to be a heart surgeon, but found the process unappealing.
