San Francisco//January 26, 2008//The California College of the Arts hosts the documentary film entitled Madeleine Castaing, by Christopher Flach

    /24-7PressRelease/ - SAN FRANCISCO, CA, January 18, 2008 - The California College of the Arts, Extended Education Design Forum, is an all day event which will host an eclectic mix of leading architects, designers and artists to discuss a range of design philosophies and approaches, focusing on the influence and scope of international art, architecture and interior design.

About the California College of the Arts (CCA)The California College of the Arts (CCA), founded in 1907, is the largest regionally accredited, independent school of art and design in the western United States. Alumni Nathan Oliveira and Manuel Neri were leaders in the Bay Area figurative art movement.

Madeline Castaing the film, celebrates Castaing's neoclassical taste and her glamorous appearance even into her 90s. The film brings life to the legendary woman equally known for her bright red lipstick, pageboy wig and long false eyelashes as for reintroducing the taste for Napoleon III furnishings and 18th century English furniture to collectors of art and design.

About Madeleine Castaing
Madeleine Castaing (1894-1992) was a prominent antiquaire and interior decorator in Paris for more than fifty years. She and her husband Marcellin were key members of the artistic community of Montparnasse in the 1920s and 30s, and became intimate friends with writers, musicians and artists. Among those artists Castaing was closest to were Andre Derain, Fernand Leger, Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani and especially Chaim Soutine. Soutine was a frequent houseguest at the Castaing country home in Lèves. Soutine's 1929 portrait of Madeleine is now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum.

About Christopher Flach
A New York City native, Flach earned a PhD. He spent his early years studying with Ansel Adams and Yousuf Karsh in Yosemite, California and later worked with Mary Ellen Mark. He has produced many short, experimental films which have screened at several international and local film festivals. Madeleine Castaing is his first documentary project.
