Patricia Marie Corbett Named Professional of the Year in Counselling Services

    CALGARY, AB, October 06, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Patricia Marie Corbett, an In-Home Support Worker, has been named a Worldwide Branding Professional of the Year in Counseling Services. While inclusion in Worldwide Branding is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Branding membership.

Ms. Corbett has 20 years of professional experience and has been providing support services to the intellectually disabled for the past 10 years. On a daily basis, she visits clients in their natural settings. She also works with schools by attending parent-teacher meetings, consults with doctors, and facilitates a college course. Ms. Corbett and her son, Nathan, are working on an inspirational book entitled, "Sky's the Limit."

Looking back, Ms. Corbett attributes her success to her patience, persistence, and her ability to not give up on her visions and work. Additionally, she credits the individuals with whom she works. She believes it is a privilege to be invited into someone's home. She dedicated her second master's degree to her late husband, Leonard Michael Patrick Corbett, who passed away a few days after attending her graduation. She previously worked in the child care field for 20 years, specializing in cognitive disability. Her sons are autistic, so she is passionate about making peoples' lives more successful despite their challenges. Her late husband, who was a minister and nurse, and had been in social work, also urged her to do this work.

Ms. Corbett received a master's degree in social work from the University of Calgary in 2013 and a master's degree in counseling in 2007. In years to come, she expects to learn more about prevention, function support and catalysts, international classification and functioning capacity. Furthermore, Ms. Corbett's dream is to partner with her son, Nathan to develop inspirational photo books. Nathan's dream is to make visual cues to support people of all ages in raising the quality of their lives.
