ATLANTA, GA, February 12, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Specialty coffee purveyor J. Martinez & Company has a long history of seeking out the rarest gourmet coffees from across the globe to bring back to its customers. One of the most exotic coffees the company has found is a coffee from Yemen.
Coffee growing conditions in Yemen are extremely difficult. Only 3 percent of Yemen's land space can be farmed, and only a small percentage of that is used for coffee production. This land is typically located in the mountains on terraces that the farmers have painstakingly carved out of the steep mountainsides. Because they are so dangerous to create, these farms typically only cover 3/4 of an acre each, meaning there is very little space for each farmer to grow their crop.
The small farm's desert-like conditions and an overall poor system of cultivation all combine to produce a low-yield coffee crop. Yet, despite the small size of the crop relative to other coffee-producing nations, Yemeni coffee is one of the most prized and desired coffees in the world.
The Yemeni people know what an amazing flavor their coffee has, and they do not like to export it.
"Three-quarters of the entire Yemeni coffee crop is consumed in Yemen," says John Martinez, Owner of J. Martinez & Company. "Of the 1/4 that is exported, more than half goes directly to Saudi Arabia. The small amount of coffee that is left at that point has a high demand."
Yemeni coffee has a distinct dark chocolate flavor with a medium level of acidity and herbal undertones. There is no question as to why this flavor is so desirable. J. Martinez & Company's Yemen Mattari coffee is particularly notable for its mocha flavoring. To learn more, visit http://www.martinezfinecoffees.com.
