National Canine Breeder Reform Group Focuses on Registration and Regulation of Commercial Dog Breeding

    FORT WORTH, TX, January 13, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Reform Canine Breeding and Auctions (RCBA), a new advocacy group with plans to register and regulate commercial dog breeders, will have its first organizational meeting on January 17 in Fort Worth, Texas. The group is committed to improving dog breeding to ensure that dogs are treated humanely, kindly and bred using only medically sound practices.

"We don't see a way to compel the minority of bad dog breeders to reform or exit the business if they can stay in the shadows," said Ron Sturgeon, the Fort Worth-based business consultant and serial entrepreneur who founded RCBA and serves on its board.

Once a salvage yard owner and currently an auto salvage consultant, Sturgeon, makes an analogy between the auto salvage industry of the 1970s and the dog breeding industry of today. "At the time, environmental regulation was coming because our industry badly needed it," said Sturgeon.

"Yard owners had to choose between contributing to the process and having regulations imposed upon us," noted Sturgeon. "Through trade groups, we worked with regulators to produce rules that have made the auto salvage industry cleaner and better for operators and customers," stated Sturgeon.

"Commercial dog breeders are in the same situation today as we were then," said Sturgeon. "They should support registration and sensible regulation because it will ultimately be in their self-interest," added Sturgeon.

"Breeders should welcome registration and clearer standards of care for their dogs," said Hue Grant, RCBA's President. "It's the right thing to do for the dogs and for the dog breeding industry."
