San Diego Firm Jackson Design and Remodeling Wins 3rd Place in Best Large Bath Category at 2015 NKBA Design Competition

    SAN DIEGO, CA, January 22, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- San Diego-based Jackson Design & Remodeling (JDR) captured a major award at last night's 2015 National Kitchen & Bath Association Awards, which kicked off the annual Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas. JDR won third place in the highly competitive Best Large Bathroom category for its Daring Style Master Bath.

JDR Senior Interior Designer Sol Quintana Wagoner, Assistant Designer Marisela Contreras and Residential Designer John Kavan designed the award-winning bathroom that was executed by the JDR design-build team. This is Sol's second national NKBA award. Last year, she took home the "Best Overall Bath" award for an Asian-inspired powder room that wowed the judges with its form and function.

This year's winning bathroom was larger, at 90 square feet and replaced a busy and cluttered space with no organization, very little natural light and no personality.

"We designed this new master bath to embrace the power of color," said Quintana Wagoner. "By creating a more streamlined layout, we were able to vastly improve the natural light in the room. We deliberately used materials, such as the Shoji-style doors and frosted glass that allow for separation and privacy, without losing any light throughout the space. We used disciplined lines to create organization and flow while focusing on materials and colors to breathe fresh energy into the room."

The winning master bath blends elements of daring modern style with mid-century touches that bring bright energy and character to the space. Large windows flood the room with natural light, highlighting the wall tiles, which alternate between a glossy and matte finish, creating an intriguing sensation of depth. The stylish freestanding tub and sleek open shower are designed to give the master bath an open concept. Shoji-style sliding doors and frosted glass allow ample light to flow through the room while providing privacy for this relaxing retreat. The wood flooring in the sink area transitions to a sloped floor to accommodate the open shower, where the textured wall and a series of niches delight provide practical functionality. A row of hand-blown glass pendants above the vanity adds artful illumination to the vanity area, where periwinkle, charcoal and lemon yellow meet in a daring contrast of color.

The 2015 NKBA awards entries were judged on the following five core areas: Safety & Ergonomics, Elements & Principles of Design, Design Planning, Creativity and Presentation. Each of the industry experts selected to judge was either a Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer (CMKBD ) or both a Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD ) and a Certified Bath Designer (CBD ). NKBA award winners were announced at a special awards ceremony Monday evening, January 19, leading into the 2015 KBIS tradeshow in Las Vegas Jan. 20-23.
