Dr. Tarantino treats patients with bleeding and clotting disorders



Dr. Tarantino has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed papers, reviews, and book chapters and more than 120 scientific abstracts.

    PEORIA, IL, February 18, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael D. Tarantino, MD, Physician, Founder and Medical Director and President of Bleeding & Clotting Disorders Institute, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in hematology.

Dr. Tarantino has 22 years of experience in his field, with five years as the Founder and Medical Director and President of the Bleeding & Clotting Disorders Institute. As a medical professional, he specializes in non-malignant hematology, as well as bleeding and clotting disorders. On a daily basis, he is responsible for directing BCDI, the only federally recognized Center of Excellence for the treatment of inherited bleeding and clotting disorders south of Chicago, IL. He also cares for children and adults with bleeding and clotting disorders.

Looking back, Dr. Tarantino attributes his success to his desire to help people. He became involved in his profession because he wanted to help children. He had a great mentor that led him to hematology and he has never looked back.

Dr. Tarantino completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology from the University of Wisconsin in 1993 and a residency in pediatrics from the University of Arizona in 1990. He earned an MD from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in 1987. In addition to his degree, he is board certified in pediatric hematology and oncology. He was recently inducted into Worldwide Registry and is also a member of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Council of the National Hemophilia Foundation and a member of the Medical Advisory Board of the Platelet Disorder Association. In 2012 and 2014, he received a Patient's Choice Award from Vitals, and he was honored as a physician of the year by the National Hemophilia Foundation from 2012-2013. He was named as one of America's Top Doctors by Castle Connolly from 2012-2013, and as a Compassionate Doctor from Vitals in 2012. In 2014 the University of Illinois College of Medicine presented him with an Alpha Omega Alpha Teaching Award.

In addition, Dr. Tarantino has enjoyed a very successful and prolific research career, first inspired by Dr. James J. Corrigan, Jr. and Dr. Diane Nugent. Dr. Tarantino has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed papers, reviews, and book chapters and more than 120 scientific abstracts.
