Michael A. Orlando Honored as an AV Preeminent Attorney

With more than 32 years of professional experience, Mr. Orlando has practiced in maritime, energy, commercial, products liability, appellate, insurance defense and coverage, construction, transportation and professional liability among other areas of law. He represents clients throughout Texas and the Gulf Coast in the areas of litigation, international and domestic arbitrations, and business and insurance-related interests. In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Orlando drafts and negotiates contracts for energy and marine companies, and is particularly familiar with master service agreements, indemnity, insurance and risk allocation issues.

Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Orlando has earned a reputation for developing strategies that help clients on any given assignment, regardless of the issues or the amounts at stake. He has led counsel in a case involving more than $100 million in alleged actual damages from inception through his oral argument in the Supreme Court of the United States and ultimate dismissal as against his clients. He has also worked jointly with solicitors in other countries on international matters.

Board certified in both civil pretrial practice and in civil trial advocacy, Mr. Orlando received a JD from The University of Houston Law Center in 1981. He was recently inducted into Worldwide Registry and also maintains affiliation with the Houston International Seafarers' Centers, Houston Mariners Club, State Bar of Texas, Maritime Law Association of the United States, The International Propeller Club of the United States and ABA.

An AV Preeminent Attorney, Mr. Orlando also serves as an adjunct professor of law at the University of Houston Law Center, where he teaches pretrial litigation, and has written and lectured extensively on energy, marine and insurance topics. Recently, Mr. Orlando was lead counsel in an oil well blowout case in which he obtained an $11 million federal court judgment for his oil company clients.
