Dedicated to helping others, he has traveled the world to establish kidney transplant programs, organ donation programs and perform urologic and oncological surgeries. In the U.S., he has served as President of the Urologic Society for Transplantation and Renal Surgery, Senator for the University of Miami, Director of the Miami Transplant Institute, Chief Medical and Academic Officer at the Miami Transplant Institute, and the Director of Urologic Transplant Surgery. To remain on the cutting edge of medicine, he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is affiliated with the American Board of Urology and the American Urological Association.
Dr. Ciancio became involved in transplantation because he felt it was the best way that he could give back- quite literally. "I can remove something that is bad and then replace with something that is good," he noted in a recent interview, stating that urology gives him the ability to perform complex surgeries that not all physicians are qualified to complete. Gratified by his work, Dr. Ciancio plans to continue working for the University of Miami Health System.
