The June 26 show is both a welcome and a love letter to the vibrant Birmingham scene that Mother Plug Music hopes to draw and support, and the bands are musical heavy-hitters.
BIRMINGHAM, AL, May 22, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Birmingham music fans will get a chance to show up and revel in the scene this June when Mother Plug Music hosts New Orleans band The Revivalists and Ohio original Patrick Sweany at Avondale Brewery. The event will celebrate the launch of Mother Plug Music, an innovative new online hub for the Birmingham music community, and will be the first chance for local scene enthusiasts to mingle with the creators offline.
Mother Plug Music is the brainchild of Josh Matthews, inspired by a lifetime steeped in the Birmingham music scene and by witnessing its recent explosion in growth firsthand. The website offers a free citywide cross-venue music event calendar and a platform for community-driven content including album reviews, event promotions, original editorial takes, and more.
"There's a lot of competition in Birmingham's music scene now," Matthews explains. "Bands are really vying for people's ears. I remember back in the day there might be 2 or 3 really good shows that would come through in the course of a month--now it's 2 or 3 in the course of a week."
This scene expansion is great for bands and music fans alike, but it presents unique challenges: bands may have a harder time reaching fans through the noise, and fans may find it hard to keep up with shows without clogging their inboxes with subscribed email mailers from every venue in town. Mother Plug Music is designed to pick up the slack as a one-stop shop for all things music-related in Birmingham.
The June 26 show is both a welcome and a love letter to the vibrant Birmingham scene that Mother Plug Music hopes to draw and support, and the bands are musical heavy-hitters. The Revivalists have a raucous onstage energy and a sound that makes the most out of the addition of horns and steel guitar to a traditional rock setup. Patrick Sweany brings a versatile mix of influences to the table and is likely to appeal to fans of acts like The Black Keys, Jack White, and Jimbo Mathis.
Tickets go on sale Friday, May 29 at 10 AM CST at www.MotherPlugMusic.com.
