SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY, June 29, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gary Michael Idelchik, MD, FACC, MD, Interventional Cardiologist Cardiology Specialty Services of Saratoga Hospital, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in cardiology.

Dr. Gary Michael Idelchik has actively been practicing as an interventional cardiologist for over eight years, and is currently practicing at Saratoga Hospital, where he is the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and has established the percutaneous coronary intervention program and is in the process of establishing the heart attack program there as well. Throughout his career, Dr. Idelchik has distinguished himself as an expert in the diagnosis of cardiac and non-cardiac diseases, and prides himself on his communication skills, bedside manner, and treating the patient and not just the disease process. Dr. Idelchik is responsible for the management and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, performing both diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations via transradial approach, performing peripheral arterial interventions, and diagnosing and treating peripheral vascular disease and structural heart disease including valvular heart disease. He also provides critical cardiac care and is trained in using cardiac support devices, while assessing the physiology of coronary artery disease using nuclear cardiac imaging and assessing general cardiac function with echocardiography. Dr. Idelchik recently relocated to New York from Texas, where he was voted as one of the Top 10 Cardiologists in the state.

Dr. Idelchik's interest in medicine began at the age of 5, when his grandfather underwent bypass surgery. There was an issue during the surgery with the mitral valve that was recognized only months after his grandfather's initial surgery, that required an additional open-heart surgery to address. Upset and frustrated that the issue with the mitral valve was not recognized prior to his grandfather's surgery, Dr. Idelchik began to learn about the heart and wanted to make sure a similar oversight would not happen to other patients. Additionally, his interests in physics and chemistry further attracted him to the study of medicine in general and Cardiology, specifically.

Dr. Idelchik has completed fellowships through the Department of Cardiology Structural Heart Disease at both Chaim Sheba Medical in Tel Aviv, Israel; Rambam Medical Center at Haifa, Israel, and the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital under the Baylor College of Medicine. He completed both his internship and residency in internal medicine at University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas.

Dr. Idelchik is a board certified in General and Interventional Cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is licensed to practice in Texas and New York. He is also board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, and is board certified in nuclear cardiology by the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology. He was recently inducted into the Worldwide Registry and he maintains an affiliation with the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, the Texas Medical Association and the American College of Physicians. Dr. Idelchik has received numerous awards and distinctions from Vitals, including a listing as one of the Top 10 Doctors by State in Texas in 2014, Most Compassionate Doctor in 2011, 2012 and 2013, and Patients Choice Awards in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

In the years to come, Dr. Idelchik hopes to evolve the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease and improve the efficiency and efficacy of delivery of cardiac services.
