FRISCO, CO, July 30, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Frisco community is invited to a free celebration at Safeway on August 6, to honor Frisco's stop on the "Choose Colorado Pop-Up Picnics" summer series -- farm-fresh, modern picnics celebrating locally-grown produce. Free to the public, the event will take place from noon to 4:00 p.m., and feature local food samples, activities, giveaways and agricultural experts.
During the picnic-inspired celebration, the Colorado Proud team will answer consumers' questions about incorporating local produce into their picnic menus and offer produce picking tips. Additionally, the team will distribute produce samples, stickers, temporary tattoos, reusable tote bags and recipes.
In addition to local produce samples and food, attendees can also partake in face painting, fire truck tours and potato stamp art. Safeway, a long-time partner of Colorado Proud, will award the Dillon Fire Department with a $500 donation during a check presentation ceremony to thank them for their support and dedication to the community. At the conclusion of the celebration, attendees can head to Main Street, Frisco for the Concert in the Park Series with band New Orleans Suspects at 5:30 p.m. Safeway and Colorado Proud will be at the event next to the beer tent to giveaway a basket full of locally grown Colorado Proud produce and $100 Safeway gift cards.
"We hope the entire Frisco community joins the Colorado Proud team on August 6 for a produce picnic to celebrate the farmers, producers and growers who contribute to the state's economic vitality," said Wendy White, marketing specialist for the Colorado Department of Agriculture. "Safeway has and continues to be a huge supporter of local produce and we are thrilled to work with them to offer the Frisco community a refreshed approach to eating local produce."
The Pop-Up Picnics celebrate the farmers who help our state thrive and educate consumers about the benefits of buying and eating local produce. In addition, the picnics recognize consumers on-the-go summer lifestyles, offering a new way to experience the picnic utilizing local produce.

The goal of Colorado Proud is to make it easier for consumers to identify and purchase Colorado products by labeling them with the Colorado Proud logo. In 1999, the program started with 65 companies; and now, the Colorado Proud program has more than 2,200 members that include farmers, ranchers, processors, restaurants, retailers and associations statewide. Colorado Proud Pop-Up Picnic events are funded by a grant from the Colorado Department of Agriculture through the USDA's Specialty Crop Block Grant Program.
