WASHINGTON, DC, August 23, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ruff Plastic Surgery (www.ruffplasticsurgery.com) is now offering KYBELLA at its Washington, D.C. office, where patients bothered by a double chin can get a series of injections that destroy their fat cells.
The treatment approved earlier this year by the FDA is being called the "double chin shot," and one of the plastic surgeons in the Washington, D.C. practice says it's quickly becoming a popular request among patients.
"A double chin is a very common concern among both men and women," says Dr. Michael Somenek, a facial specialist who joined Dr. Paul G. Ruff IV at Ruff Plastic Surgery last year. "It's a stubborn trouble spot that affects a lot of people, even very thin people. In the past, surgery was basically the only treatment option, so KYBELLA is really a game-changer."
KYBELLA works by using a manmade version of a chemical called deoxycholic acid that occurs naturally in the body. It normally helps break down and destroy dietary fat, but when a synthetic version is injected below the chin, it gradually kills fat cells. The result after a series of 2 to 4 treatments is a streamlined neck and jawline.
"The results are quite impressive, and they're completely permanent," Dr. Somenek says.
KYBELLA offers a non-surgical alternative to more invasive procedures such as neck liposuction, Dr. Somenek says.
"People around Washington, D.C. lead very busy lives and generally would rather avoid the downtime required for liposuction or a neck lift, even though the results are great with those procedures," Dr. Somenek says. "With KYBELLA, there is little to no downtime and minor side effects -- basically just a bit of redness and soreness -- and each treatment takes only about 20 minutes."
Treatment requires multiple sessions scheduled about a month apart. At the outset of each session, the surgeon says, he precisely marks the injection sites. The treatment involves multiple injections during each treatment session. Because the treatment is customized for each patient, the cost varies.
"The cost is usually less than liposuction, and most people find the convenience and comfort of a non-surgical alternative to be a worthwhile investment." Dr. Somenek says. "Not all patients require the same number of treatments, so it's best to get a consultation to find out what your costs might be."
Washington, D.C.'s Ruff Plastic Surgery (www.ruffplasticsurgery.com) is the private practice of board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul G. Ruff IV. Dr. Ruff got his undergraduate degree at Georgetown University and medical degree at Eastern Virginia Medical school. He then pursued postgraduate training in general surgery and critical care at Washington Hospital Center and plastic surgery at the University of California, San Diego. In 2001, Dr. Ruff started his private practice, where he offers a wide range of cosmetic procedures for the face, breasts, and body. Ruff Plastic Surgery also offers numerous non-surgical treatments including BOTOX Cosmetic and filler injections, laser and energy treatments, and skincare services. In 2014, Dr. Ruff was joined in practice by facial plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Somenek, who performs specialized reconstructive and cosmetic procedures of the face.
