The first Aboriginal woman to graduate from Harvard, Ms. Ingram received a master's degree in international and comparative education from the school in 1985.
REDFERN, AUSTRALIA, October 28, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Norma Ingram, Project Director for Willing Consultancy and Executive Director of Public Relations and Student Recruitment for National Aboriginal College Pty Ltd, has been named a Worldwide Branding Professional of the Year in project management and education. While inclusion in Worldwide Branding is an honor, only small selections of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Branding membership.
For 35 years, Ms. Ingram has been educating and training others on the subject of Aboriginal culture and politics. Excelling in community engagement and development, she has created workshops and management of programs bringing awareness to the Aboriginal culture.
Motivated to succeed and support her people, Ms. Ingram's heritage has been a driving force in her career. An Indigenous Australian woman herself, Ms. Ingram is actively involved in Indigenous affairs, education, culture and politics. Believing that it is important for Indigenous people to be in the mainstream school system, her work has brought her into schools, companies and the community to teach Australian people about Aboriginal culture and history, as well as how Aboriginals and Australians can work in harmony. In an effort to continue the conversation, she developed an online training college, the National Aboriginal College, which will allow people to continue their education at their own pace in their own home. Her team provides ongoing mentoring to ensure students successfully complete their chosen courses with the aim of obtaining meaningful employment. She hopes to see continued growth and interest in the National Aboriginal College and the Wyanga Aged Care program in the future. Ms. Ingram wishes to continue to be a role model for all Indigenous people in Australia, as well as the wider community who wish to continue their education for better life choices and opportunities.
The first Aboriginal woman to graduate from Harvard, Ms. Ingram received a master's degree in international and comparative education from the school in 1985. She later earned diplomas in education and community services, as well as a Certificate IV in training and assessment. In the near future, she plans to obtain a Ph.D.
Ms. Ingram is a board member of the Aboriginal Housing Office and the Indigenous Advisory Group, UTS, a co-chair for the City of Sydney Indigenous Advisory Committee and a chairperson for the Aboriginal Aged Care Program. Having received several local community awards, she is on the annual selection committee for the NSW Australian of the Year. She also works with the Wyanga Aboriginal elders. Ms. Ingram welcomes all invitations to participate in other areas and sit on other boards.
