/24-7PressRelease.com/ - IRVINE, Calif., March 14, 2005—Greenlight Wireless today announced a new paging feature to Skweezer, which detects devices with memory limitations and then slices Web pages into smaller sections that can be browsed separately. This enhancement is especially relevant to cell phone users, as the browsers found on these handsets often have page-size limits that prevent users from accessing the vast majority of sites found on the Internet.
Skweezer's new paging system allows people who browse the Web with a cell phone to have full access to the Internet, regardless of their handset's limitations. Skweezer detects the specific device being used and the maximum file size it will allow, then dynamically slices the requested content into multiple sub-pages that meet the device's requirements. Links to these sub-pages are located at the top and bottom of the Skweezed page, allowing easy access to any portion of the content.
Many of the latest cell phones include a "microbrowser" that, in theory, allows the user to browse the World Wide Web. In practice, however, most Web sites are still inaccessible by these devices due to the memory limitations of the handset itself. For instance, a Motorola V551 will only load Web pages that are ten kilobytes or less in size, while the home pages for sites like eBay, Yahoo!, and Amazon.com have file sizes in the hundreds of kilobytes. Attempting to load the eBay home page on the Motorola phone would cause the all-to-familiar "413: Requested Entity Too Large" error. In this case, Skweezer's new paging system would detect the Motorola V551, compress the site down from over 300 kilobytes to roughly 50 kilobytes then display the page in five 10-kilobyte parts.
