JDR's 2015 Master Design awards were earned for the following projects:
Bathrooms $50,000-$75,000
JDR received a bronze award for a relaxing master bath retreat, featuring indoor and outdoor showers. JDR Senior Designer Sol Quintana Wagoner and Design Assistant Liz Carter created this memorable master bath, which evokes the experience of a Caribbean destination resort with a contemporary aesthetic. The design's emphasis on openness appeals to the imagination. Colors and materials throughout the room express an artistic spirit, while careful space planning and storage options provide a high level of modern functionality. Whether luxuriating in the sumptuous indoor shower or in the open air of the outdoor shower, this inviting space creates an unforgettable sensory adventure.
Kitchens $75,000-$150,000
JDR earned a silver award for a bright kitchen designed for a couple with young children who fell in love with the stunning ocean views from their 1960s home and wanted a kitchen to accommodate both sophisticated entertaining and comfortable family time. To preserve the integrity of the original home, the JDR team renovated the space within the existing footprint. JDR Senior Designer Sherrie Pantalon, Interior Designer Jennifer Pinto and Design Assistant Brittany Weber doubled the size of the kitchen by implementing smart space planning and removing the original peninsula. The kitchen's natural surroundings are now central to its welcoming, light-filled design. The open space and subtle colors of contemporary design are balanced with materials and textural details that suggest the appealing character of a classic home.
Kitchens More Than $150,000
JDR won a silver award for this kitchen designed for a couple with two children who value art and family, love to cook large Italian meals, and frequently entertain. The homeowners wanted an elegant, welcoming and far less isolated kitchen with more natural light. JDR Senior Designer Tatiana Machado-Rosas, Design Assistants Olga Trujillo and Priscilla Jimenez and Residential Designer John Kavan made the architectural design decision to relocate the kitchen to maximize the appreciation of amazing natural vistas and define the kitchen as a central gathering space. A refined black, white and gold palette is balanced by the contemporary feeling of clean, disciplined lines, while the cooktop's custom hood punctuates the space with originality.
Kitchens More Than $150,000
JDR received a bronze award for a "Natural Modern" kitchen designed for a well-traveled couple who wanted to dramatically open up their kitchen and living areas and connect the space with their home's lovely natural environment. The award-winning team was composed of JDR Senior Designer Sol Quintana Wagoner, Design Assistant Liz Carter and Residential Designer John Kavan. The existing space was a series of separate areas with little relationship to each other or the outdoors. After several structural changes, including the removal of walls, windows, doors and a fireplace, one open space was established and defined by a balanced rhythm of wood beams in the ceiling. The interplay of textures with the clean lines of the open floor plan creates an engaging design for family life and entertaining.
Whole House $300,000-$700,000
JDR earned a bronze award for a "Sophisticated Beach Classic" home designed for an adventurous couple who wanted the classic feel of an East Coast cottage and the sophisticated design of European living spaces. JDR Senior Designer Sherrie Pantalon, Interior Designer Jennifer Pinto and Design Assistant Brittany Weber completed the remodel within the original footprint of the existing home, built in the 1960s. The space appears dramatically larger and is vastly more functional after inventive space planning and thoughtful design. The kitchen is now double the space of the original after eliminating the peninsula and carefully rethinking the layout. The family room is now a bright space filled with light and energy. A large brick pop out was built around the existing fireplace and painted white, establishing a striking centerpiece. The new master bathroom design was inspired by the client's love for sparkling gemstones and the colors of the nearby ocean.
Whole House $300,000-$700,000
JDR received an honorable mention for their "Graceful Chic" remodel of a Rancho Santa Fe home. For a couple with two children who value art and family and love to entertain, their home was limiting and uninspiring. The JDR team, led by Senior Designer Tatiana Machado-Rosas, Design Assistants Olga Trujillo and Priscilla Jimenez and Residential Designer John Kavan relocated the kitchen to dramatically improve the flow of the home and maximize appreciation of natural views. The breakfast room and family room, once rarely used because of their position in the home, are now comfortable and welcoming. Previously a cramped space with rooms inexplicably positioned to ignore its incredible natural surroundings, this magnificent home now balances striking classical and contemporary elements in an expression of graceful chic that fully embraces the outdoors.
The Master Design Awards are judged by industry peers from across the country. Awards are given to Gold, Silver, Bronze and Honorable Mention winners.
