MILTON, MA, November 11, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On October 6th, students at the Delphi Academy of Boston were honored to be visited by members of the local Milton Fire Department. This was in observance of National Fire Prevention Week, a yearly event since 1925. For ninety years Americans have been looking for ways to lower the number of deadly fires, especially those involving children. Fire departments across the country have found that education is the number one way to do that.
The visit to Delphi's Lower School started with firefighters teaching students about various aspects of fire safety. This included how to prevent fires from starting in the first place and learning what to do if you actually find a fire in your house. Learning all about these safety tips gave students the confidence that they would know what to do if they ever found themselves in an emergency.
Afterward, students were able to try on firefighter helmets, boots and fireproof "turnout coats". Once they were dressed up like real-life firefighters, the students climbed onto the fire truck and got to experience a little bit of what these valuable members of our community do every day to keep us safe.
Students reported that they loved the experience of visiting with their local firefighters and that they know what they will need to do to always keep themselves safe around fire in the future.
