TAVARES, FL, November 19, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On December 12, 2015, Fight for the Cure is hosting a sporting event in picturesque Wooton Park in Tavares, FL from 11am-11pm. The event is being held to raise funds to aid in the research of childhood cancer. 50% of all profits made will be donated to Shriner's Children's Hospital.
Activities will be kid-friendly during the day with a focus on family fitness, wellness, and martial arts. There will be live entertainment, vendor booths featuring prominent local businesses, bounce houses, food trucks, free demonstrations and belt matches performed by karate instructors and students from area Dojos. In the evening, the venue will transition to a ticketed event featuring cocktail service, live music, an auction and raffle, and ISKA sanctioned kickboxing and MMA fights. General admission tickets for activities after 5pm are available pre-purchase for $25 or $30 at the gate. Ticket holders must be over the age of 18.
"The best method for avoiding cancer in our young people is prevention," says owner and event promoter Jacquelyn Turnage. "When prevention fails though, we, as a community must step in." Her vision for "Fight for the Cure" is to foster a love of fitness in young families. She believes that fitness and maintaining an active lifestyle within the family unit helps instill habits in children that can last a lifetime and may prevent them from becoming affected later in life.
Also, Tavares' burgeoning downtown district is ripe for entertainment that appeals to younger adults. Turnage hopes that bringing the sport of mixed martial arts to the area will help inject some excitement into the community, and bring attention to many of the area's restaurants and bars. "We have been blessed to receive so much support from local businesses, private donors, and sponsors. And to be able to give so much back to help the children is really exciting."
Fight for the Cure organizers will also be sponsoring children affected by cancer to ride on the city's world-famous seaplanes, in cooperation with Jones Brothers Seaplane Adventures and Training. "A child never forgets their first plane ride. We hope to provide these kids with a positive, lasting memory of our beautiful city, and hopefully allow them to escape the harsh reality they have to face day in and out," says Jason Witzigman, Vice President.
