LEXINGTON, NC, January 23, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Lory Morrow, Superintendent at Davidson County Schools, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Dr. Lory Morrow will be featured in the upcoming edition of the Women of Distinction Magazine in 2015/2016.
Serving as an educator for more than 25 years in public education, Dr. Lory Morrow became Superintendent of Davidson County Schools two years ago, responsible for the overall leadership, management, and administration of 35 schools consisting of 20,000 students in grades K-12, supervision of 2,500 staff members, and an annual budget of approximately $160 million. Dr. Morrow is the first female to serve as the superintendent in Davidson County. She is also the first superintendent that is from outside Davidson County.
"My role is very diverse," Dr. Morrow said. "I work with the Board of Education to set policy, the yearly budget, and support initiatives. Collaboration is key when supporting our schools, teachers, administrators, and students. I also spend a great deal of time in the community listening to stakeholders, supporting community organizations and partners, as well as working with elected officials in an effort to galvanize resources and support for the school system."
Entering the field of education in 1989, Dr. Morrow began her career as a teacher, worked as an assistant principal, principal, executive director, assistant superintendent, and deputy superintendent. She worked for the Gaston County, Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Iredell-Statesville school districts before coming to Davidson County Schools. She also worked as an Adjunct Professor at Gardner-Webb University teaching educators in their Masters and Doctoral Programs.
Community involvement is an important part of Dr. Morrow's role as superintendent of schools. She serves as a Board Member for North Carolina Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, Davidson County Educational Foundation, DavidsonWorks, and Communities In Schools. Dr. Morrow also serves as an Executive Committee Member for Piedmont Triad Education Consortium and as a Council Member for North Carolina New Schools Advisory Board.
Dr. Morrow holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and a Master of Arts in School Administration from Gardner-Webb University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
