Craftsman Construction is an National Association Of Home Builders (NAHB) certified Master Green Builder.
Our main focus is on building energy efficient homes. "Construction of these homes will require us to build an energy efficient envelope that will allow you to get 20% to 30% or more energy efficiency than today's homes said Jerry Jackness, President Craftsman Construction". Some of the ways to reach this level of efficiency are by using insulated concrete basements forms (ICF), spray foam insulation, geo-thermal or high efficiency heat pumps, high efficiency windows, proper air sealing and more. A properly sized heating and air conditioning systems with duct work that is sealed tight and kept within the conditioned space of the home is also a major consideration. Sighting the home for the best solar gain, along with large roof overhangs to shade the house will add to the homes efficiency as well.
On top of the energy issue is the issue of a healthy home. This must be addressed with proper vapor barriers to allow the moisture in the home to permeate out, and to keep bulk water from entering the home. A heat recovery ventilator (HRV) can be used to bring in fresh outside air and replace the stale inside air without wasting energy.
Other issues in building a green home include using products that come from sustainable natural resources. Some of these items include bamboo flooring, cork flooring, linoleum, and engineered lumber that uses 50% more of the log than using conventional lumber.
