Desmond McElroy's first introduction to golf was in 1960. "I bought my first set of golf clubs, including a golf bag, at the Salvation Army for the grand total of $4.75, and I visited Van Cortland Park in the Bronx N.Y paying $8.50 for 18 holes. It was really cheap and was all I could afford at the time. I played with those clubs for many years.", says Desmond. He practiced putting in his family room using a paper cup and even a small sauce can; both gave unsatisfactory results. "I then made a Plexiglas version, shaped as a square box, with a ramp for a gravity ball return. I then added a laser which helped line up the golf ball and my body to the target. The laser gave me instant feedback!"

Looking to perfect his invention further, Desmond sought and found a graphic artist who had designed high end projects for clients like IBM and the Federal Government. "After examining his work", says Desmond, "I was convinced he could give my device the elegance and portability that would appeal to young and old, male and female, amateurs and professionals alike."
