Leslie Merklin-Barber, BSN RN CDE, Named a Top Female Executive

    SEATTLE, WA, February 24, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Leslie Merklin-Barber, Diabetes Program Coordinator of Highline Medical Center has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in diabetes care.

With 32 years of experience as a diabetes program coordinator for Highline Medical Center, Ms. Merklin-Barber has set herself apart as an expert in nursing. As a diabetic herself, she was diagnosed when she was 29 years old. As a nurse who has seen patients with diabetes get their toes and legs amputated, she decided that this was a disease that she was going to control. She made the decision that diabetes was not going to control her. To this day, 26 plus years later, she has not had one complication from having diabetes.

Treating diabetes is Ms. Merklin-Barber's passion, and she wants to share her success story with her patients. Today, there are 29.1 million people in the United States diagnosed with diabetes. Each one is different and unique. What works with one might not necessarily work with another. Leslie works with each patient to come up with the best treatment plan for each one of her patients. She monitors them and will put them on the right path.

What has contributed to Leslie's success is the ability to meet each person that she is working with where they are in terms of different educational levels. She finds out their needs and tailors their educational pieces. She does this with staff and student nurses. She has a big impact with her student nurses and they request to follow her wherever she goes. In recognition of her hard work and dedication, she has been named as a Top Female Executive in her field.

The advice Leslie would like to share with the younger generation of women today is to find your passion. Do not try to find a career or job. Finding your passion will lead you to your career and job.
