Dr. Susan Blackley Named Professional of the Year in Higher Education

    BENTLEY, AUSTRALIA, April 11, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Susan Blackley, Primary Course Coordinator for the School of Education at Curtin University, has been named a Worldwide Branding Professional of the Year in Higher Education. While inclusion in Worldwide Branding is an honor, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Branding membership.

Dr. Blackley has 35 years of professional experience, with three years of experience as a primary course coordinator at Curtin University. Throughout her career, she has set herself apart as an expert in STEM education, digital andragogy, and digital portfolios. On a daily basis, she is responsible for writing and reviewing units for the Bachelor of Education and implementing units with primary pre-service teachers. She also implements primary and early childhood mathematics units. Furthermore, she is responsible for liaising with the Head of the School of Education, Directors, and other course coordinators to improve student experience both within their studies and in their professional placements.

Looking back to the beginnings of her career, Dr. Blackley always viewed teaching as a vocation and a craft. Not just a full-time job but a passion for what she does. She has a diverse background - teaching in different phases of schooling and as a curriculum advisor. She stays abreast in her field to be able to contribute to the field. She attributes her success to the mentors she has had throughout her professional career. They have always been generous to her with their time and knowledge. She became involved in her profession because she knew from the time she was a young girl that she wanted to be a teacher.

Dr Blackley received a Doctor of Education from the Queensland University of Technology in 2009, a Master of Education in numeracy from the Queensland University of Technology in 2007, a postgraduate diploma in professional educational studies from The University of Queensland in 1992, and a Bachelor of Education in mathematics and science from the Brisbane College of Advanced Education in 1984. She is a member of HERDSA, AARE, MERGA, WAIER, and AERA. In years to come, Dr. Blackley would like to move up the educational ladder, become involved with international fellowships, network further within the STEM education community, and help expand that area within the education sector.
